Robert Potts, son of Stringer Potts of Lenoir County, NC is my 3rd great grandfather. I believe he & Daniel were brothers but have no absolute proof of that yet. They were closely associated & moved from state to state together. I ordered Robert's widow's pension application & found that he had been married 3 times. The one listed as Learna shows as Leoma or Leama on the service card. Stringer was also Daniel's son. He moved to Illinois with Robert & William S., another of Daniel's sons. I cannot determine from the service card whether or not the William in Loury's Co. was Daniel's son or William from the other Potts family. From the census records for Stringer Sr. there were more children. I don't know who they all were but I believe Robert & Daniel were 2 of them. There were several females in the home that may have lived to adulthood & married but I don't have any information as to who they were. I also wonder why Robert did not marry until he was 31 & why he is not found on the census until abt. 1820 in Tenn. My thought is that he was travelling - perhaps accompanying people as they travelled or involved in the trail blazing between N.C. & Tenn. I believe Stringer Sr. stayed in N.C. & sent his family to Tenn. to live on his bounty land grant which was on the headwaters of Nelson's Creek in the eastern part of Williamson County. The county borders changed & that land is now mostly part of Rutherford County. I guess that is why Robert is in Williamson County in one of the Census & Daniel is in Rutherford even though they lived next to or very close to each other.
