Dear Madam:
You are advised that it appears from the papers in the Revolutionary
War pension claim, S. 3707, that James Potts was born in 1757 "in the
State of North Carolina in the County of Salisbury." At the beginning
of the Revolution he moved to Burke County, North Carolina.
While living in that county he enlisted, date not given, and served
two months as private in Captain Pervine's Company in Colonel Locke's
North Carolina Regiment. While a resident of Rowan County, North Carolina,
he enlisted in November, 1778, and served four and one half months as
private and was engaged in hauling provisions for the army. While living
in Burke County, North Carolina, he enlisted about the middle of December,
1780, and served three months as private in Captain Pervine's Company in
Colonel Francis Locke's North Carolina Regiment.
He lived in Burke County, North Carolina, until 1812 when he moved to
Williamson County, Tennessee.
He was allowed pension on his application executed April 2, 1833, at which
time he was living in Williamson County, Tennessee.
His son, William, was an attorney in 1838. The papers in this pension
claim contains no further date relative to the soldier's family.
Very truly yours,
A.D. Hiller
Assistant to Administrator
